Homes, Food and Dignity for All!
Carnival of Resistance 2008 is little over one week away! Please come out
on Saturday, August 30th to support the demand to raise welfare rates in
Nova Scotia, enjoy a free outdoor barbeque, and to see and hear some great
live performances! Bring your friends, families and kids!
This year's Carnival will feature performances by Rebekah Higgs, Rez
Villain, Halifax Dragon Parade, Caleb Latreille, Dirt Road Museum,
Brothers and Sisters, Flags of Convenience, the Bobby Hazard Project, and
more!
Carnival 2008 forms part of HCAP's ongoing Raise the Rates campaign. The
campaign's main demand is that the provincial government raise income
assistance rates. By fighting alongside poor people trying to access funds
available under the special needs provision of the welfare regulations and
agitating to ensure people get the money they need, the Raise the Rates
campaign also gets more for people on welfare. HCAP will also be hosting a
special needs information session booth at the Carnival where people can
get information about how to best access money through the special needs
provision. Come out to support communities who are fighting back to win
what they need to live with dignity!
At this time, HCAP is in need of financial support in any amount to help
us in renting the stage for the Carnival of Resistance. If you are able to
give, please contact the office. 2420 Agricola St., Halifax, NS B3K 4C2
