Nanaimo Citizen Advocacy Association assists and advocates for individuals who find the system unapproachable because they are unable to understand or participate in the completion of different types of forms or clearly understand process. They have difficulty providing required verbal or written information or presenting themselves at judicial proceedings such as tribunals & appeals for disability applications and other disputed matters. We also assist with Residential Tenancy issues, dispute resolution etc.
Our programs address such issues as crisis advocacy for individuals who are the working poor, on income assistance or with disabilities. We provide help with such things as policy interpretation, completing disability applications, appeals and tribunals, residential tenancy, food & shelter, counseling, problem solving and liaison with government offices.
All services are provided at no charge to our clients on an ongoing basis. Clients include the working poor, the general public, physically & mentally challenged and disabled individuals, seniors and individuals banned from Ministry offices because of behavior. The majority of services deal with crisis advocacy, document interpretation & application completion, information and referral, counseling and problem solving, assisting with access to resources such as public legal, educational and government services, community agencies and residential tenancy
