Services

Nanaimo Citizen Advocacy has been providing services in the mid Vancouver Island since the early 1970’s. The services provided include but are not limited to:

  • General and crisis advocacy
  • The reconsideration process
  • Appeals and tribunals
  • Budgeting
  • Canada Pension
  • Counselling and problem solving
  • PWD Disability applications
  • Housing facts and Residential Tenancy
  • Information and referral
  • Outreach services

Public Legal Education ( P.L.E. ) is provided through the support of the Law Foundation of B.C. Workshops are tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the general public. Workshops include but are not limited to Appeals and Tribunals, Self-Advocacy and Residential Tenancy issues. For example Social Service Groups, Church Groups etc. may wish to offer a workshop on a renters legal responsibility and requirements when renting a place to live to help insure that the individual is able to maintain continued housing.

Outreach services are supported through funding from the United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island and are provided in communities as Gabriola Island. Services are provided to individuals who are challenged in such a manner as to impede their ability to attain services that insure their well being. This includes individuals who are unable to travel for various reasons such as physical impairments. An outreach worker may assist a client by attending with them at a ministry office or doctors appointment.
