Newfoundland - NewsInnu facing eviction from tradition territoryJune 28, 2008 - 9:41pm
Over one hundred Innu families who have been occupying their traditional territories are facing eviction by the Newfoundland and Labrador government. The evictions are seen as part of an ongoing effort by the government to push through resource development and hydroelectrical projects and ignore Innu land rights. Report on Income of InuitApril 6, 2007 - 9:08am
The Strategic Research and Analysis Directorate at Indian and Northern Affairs Canada has released a report called Levels and Sources of Individual and Household Level Income for Inuit in Canada, 1980-2000. It focuses on income-related indicators for the population with Inuit ancestry. The report finds that although average incomes increased from 1980-2000 for Inuit people, they remained much lower than those of all Canadians. Reducing Poverty in Newfoundland and Labrador: Working Towards a SolutionNovember 7, 2005 - 12:00am
"This document is a call for partners to come forward to help work out the best way to reduce poverty in our province. As is discussed in the paper, a comprehensive approach with a mix of policy options is required to have a significant impact on poverty. The development of a comprehensive strategy requires input from all orders of government, community-based groups, business, labour, and individuals about the best approaches and policy mix to reduce poverty in the province."
