Disability Benefits good news tainted with bad news

The BC government announcement that the Ministry of Human Resources will provide a monthly nutritional supplement of up to $225 to Disability Benefits recipients who face chronic progressive health deterioration with life-threatening symptoms was met with mixed feelings by the federated anti-poverty groups at their annual meeting in Naramata last week. While the fapg is pleased the government is acknowledging those faced with severe health concerns have additional costs related to their health they are concerned the change to the program will, in face, adversely affect individuals with disabilities. In their press release the fapg states "We thought that this provincial government had committed to preserving peoples' access to health care. By today's actions, they have abandoned their commitment to health care and hurt some of the most vulnerable people in our province." Read the fapg's press release in its entirety.
