Advocacy Description:

The Shelter and Street Help Line provides around the clock assistance, seven days a week, to people looking for emergency accommodation and other essential services.

Callers are referred to one of the Lower Mainland's 35 shelters, which staff call twice daily to monitor bed availability. To make the process of securing a bed as easy as possible staff will, where appropriate, connect callers directly to shelters to enable them to verify eligibility requirements without incurring unnecessary traveling or telephone expense.

In addition to helping people meet their most immediate needs, staff can also refer callers to resources that can help with other issues, such as those associated with addiction, employment, financial assistance, housing, legal matters, mental health concerns, and victim services.
