Housing advocates want landlords to be forced to maintain SRO's

PIVOT Legal Society and the Carnegie Community Action Project and other housing advocacy groups in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside are calling on the provincial Residential Tenancy Branch to impose financial penalties on owners of the Downtown Eastside’s seven “worst of the worst” single room occupancy hotels.

CCPA is also concerned about developers converting other rooms in the DTES to offices and condos and is calling on the municipal government to enforce the Single Room Accommodation (SRA) Bylaw. This bylaw is supposed to maintain affordable housing.
