Saskatchewan Budget and affordable housing

The Saskatchewan government has released the 2009-2010 Budget and unlike many other provinces is predicting economic growth and a surplus. Included in the budget is $12.5 million to adjust shelter rates in the income assistance programs in response to the Task Force on Housing Affordability and an indexing of shelter allowances and supplements to 70 per cent of the average market rate.

A newly released report from the Saskatchewan Centre for Policy Alternatives makes some other suggestions on how the provincial and municipal governments can step up and implement a new affordable housing program.
