Pivot and SFU present Reel Justice
Exploring homelessness in Vancouver through film

SFU and Pivot have teamed up to host Reel Justice, a one-day film festival exploring homelessness and connected issues through Vancouver-based films and research.
What: Film Festival, Academic Panel, and Social Change Expo

When: Sunday, April 19th 2009, Doors at 12pm
Cost: Adults $5.00; Children, Students and Low-Income Individuals $3.00

Reel Justice will give Vancouverites the chance to connect with different perspectives on key social issues tied to homelessness and the Downtown Eastside. The day will be filled with film screenings, Q&As, panel discussions, and a social change expo - all featuring cutting edge films, film-makers, speakers, and organizations.

Tickets can be purchases online, at the Pivot office (678 Hastings East), or at the door.

The Films
Reel Justice films will include Carts of Darkness, Damage Done: A Drug War Oddessey, A Safer Sex Trade, Metamorphosis, Finding Dawn and many others. Films will be followed by brief Q&A sessions with directors, film subjects, advocates, academics, and/or community leaders. The Panel
The academic panel will host an cross-discipline discussion of the sources of homelessness along with potential solutions. Panelists will include:

Michelle Patterson, Adjunct Professor, Health Sciences, UBC
Krishna Pendakur, Professor, Economics, SFU

The Social Change Expo
The Social Change Expo will highlight ideas for eliminating homelessness in Vancouver from the current leaders in the sector. Each organization will have their own engagement table providing an opportunity to highlight current campaigns, build support, and reach out to new members in fun and relaxed environment. We will be handing out prizes to the organization with the most creative and effective ways of engaging with the public as decided by the audience through a popular vote.
