Vancouver's oldest social housing complex, Little Mountain is now being demolished. Little Mountain was built in the early 1950's to house the families of homeless and underhoused veterns.
In 2008, the province sold the site to Holborn who have plans to build a much denser development of primarily market housing. Since then most of the 700 low-income residents who formerly lived at Little Mountain were evicted and relocated to other social housing units.
The province has promised that the profits from the Little Mountain sale will go into funding other social housing in Vancouver and in BC but former residents and housing activists wonder why Little Mountain is being demolished now with no plans for rebuilding the social housing units in the near future.
