RED ZONE reading - poetry of homelessness

Date:

Red Zone
What:

Join award-winning poet Kim Goldberg as she performs poems from her latest book RED ZONE, an illustrated verse map of Nanaimo's homeless population. Approximately 300 people live and sleep on the streets of Nanaimo. Kim spent three years wandering back alleys, graffiti galleries, squats and homeless camps to create this book. RED ZONE went into a second printing after just seven weeks and has been adopted as a literature course text at Vancouver Island University. Come find out why everyone is talking about this book!

"I can no longer discern where the political ends and the personal begins. The deeper I push into this swollen red midden of hidden box springs and open books, the more my own flesh burns." -from RED ZONE

Take the journey with her, if you dare.

Everyone welcome. $3 admission. Part of the Planet Earth Poetry series at Black Stilt.

Signed copies will be available at the reading. RED ZONE can also be purchased in Victoria at Munro's Books and Dark Horse Books.
