About

Over the past year, the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities has been working with a number of community organizations in British Columbia through the BC Personal Supports Council to discuss the potential benefits of an assistive technology co-operative for people with disabilities.

What is assistive technology?

What is a co-operative?

An Assistive Technology Co-operative would be a business that provides adaptive devices and services to its members and these members would be able to democratically control all aspects of the business through election of board members and other activities through voting on motions during annual general meetings of the co-operative.

People with disabilities in British Columbia have benefitted from co-operatives for housing and transportation and there may be benefits in using this approach to providing assistive technology products and services.

In order to better understand what people with disabilities, their families and supporters think about the idea of an assistive technology co-operative we are undertaking a community survey using small group meetings in various communities as well as an on-line questionnaire.

Please help us to better understand if an assistive technology co-operative could help you to meet your needs or the needs of someone you know.
