Child Poverty Still An Issue In British Columbia

There are two sides to the debate over child poverty in British Columbia. According to the well-funded researchers at the Fraser Institute, the problem is exaggerated, but despite attempts such as this which apply a definition of poverty that portrays the problem as minor, those on the ground who witness the effects, would disagree.

On the other side are teachers like Carrie Gelson, who spoke to the CBC after an open letter about the needs she sees in her elementary school classroom made waves in the media. The CBC also spoke to former principal Mark Proctor, who sees increased core funding to education as part of the solution.
