Nobel Winners Stood Up To Oppression, Mobilized Women, Campaigned for Equality

Each played an important role in recent political conflicts of very different natures, but all three winners of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 have campaigned for greater equality for women, and social justice for citizens of their respective nations.

October 7, 2011 the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Yemeni activist Tawakkul Karman, Liberian activist Leymah Gbowee, and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia since 2006.
