Indigenous Women compile own database on missing and murdered women

Families of Sisters in Spirit

Two grassroots organizations, No More Silence and Families of Sisters in Spirit, are launching a community-based database of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls, compiled by the victims’ families themselves. The purpose of the database is to honour the women and provide family members with a way to document their loved ones passing.

Previously, Sisters in Spirit, a research, education and policy initiative created by the Native Women's Association of Canada created a database of missing and murdered indigenous women but the government stopped funding the program in 2010.

No More Silence and Families of Sisters in Spirit hope to create this new database without government funding and to make it public. It will be launched as soon as there is enough information in the database. If you would like a loved one's information included please get in touch via nomoresilenceorg [at] gmail [dot] com.
