'Renoviction' phenomenon a disturbing trend throughout province

A concerning trend called 'renoviction' is occurring everywhere in the province, from the Downtown Eastside to more rural towns such as Terrace and Kitimat.

Renoviction occurs when landlords (legal) evict tenants to undertake renovations. When the renovations are done, the tenants are offered their old apartments/suites back at sometimes double or triple the monthly cost. Most can't afford it and find themselves without a place to call home.

The need for affordable housing is further exacerbated, especially for those who are on welfare, disability, single parents, or senior citizens.
