Job Description: 

his position provides comprehensive housing loss prevention services to marginalized individuals and families at imminent risk of housing loss to maintain their tenancy, access income supports, benefits and/or obtain housing to support housing stability. Services delivered both in office and on multiple partner sites (Surrey & Langley). Service includes providing support, information, referral, completion of forms and applications, written communications on behalf of the client, negotiation and mediation, written appeals and representation at tribunals and hearings, also provides assistance with housing search and accessing resources.

Skills and Qualities Required: 

• Minimum 2 years post-secondary education or equivalent experience in related field
• Understanding of poverty and housing related issues, government processes and procedures related to income assistance, disability and/or tenancy an asset
• Knowledge of local community resources
• Must have valid BC driver’s license and own vehicle to use for work purposes
• Criminal Record check required

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Maintain a full caseload providing a full continuum of services in preserving housing through the Residential Tenancy Act process and income support services. This includes providing support, information, referral, completion of forms and applications, written communications on behalf of the client, negotiation and medication, written appeals and representation at hearings.
2. Provides tenancy & income support services on partnering sites.
3. Maintains and develops working relationships with the Ministry of Social Development and other human serving organizations.
4. Maintains complete and accurate statistics and records for all project activities.
5. Meets all reporting requirements.
6. Promotes the project’s activities through workshop presentations and public meetings.
7. Promotes relationships with project partners, community, other human serving organizations and general public. Participates in community meetings, the Homelessness Task Force and other events related to poverty and homelessness.
8. Participates in training, case conference, staff and agency initiatives, meetings and events.
