Job Description: 

Migrant Workers Centre (MWC), formerly West Coast Domestic Workers’ Association, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing legal aid to live-in caregivers and other migrant workers in British Columbia. MWC also engages in public legal education, and law and policy reform work. We are currently recruiting a Summer Volunteer Training Coordinator to work in our downtown Vancouver office.

Skills and Qualities Required: 

• Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, and legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Knowledge of immigration law and employment law;
• Strong legal research skills;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Ability to complete tasks in an efficient and accurate manner;
• Ability to work with diverse populations in a sensitive and respectful manner;
• Strong organization and administration skills;
• Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and be flexible with work assignments;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Demonstrated interest in social justice issues;
• Must possess an understanding of the core values of our organization; and
• Experience working in a similar role will be considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Conducting legal research and developing a series of training modules for legal volunteers;
• Developing a legal volunteer program manual;
• Researching, recommending and implementing policies and procedures to guide the delivery of the legal volunteer program;
• Developing and implementing an evaluation process for the volunteer program; and
• Performing other duties as required.
