Job Description: 

Migrant Workers Centre (MWC), formerly West Coast Domestic Workers’ Association, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to manage and coordinate its Public Legal Education (PLE) Program activities.

MWC is a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal assistance and education to migrant workers in BC. MWC also works to advance the rights of migrant workers through public legal education, law and policy reform, and test case litigation.

MWC’s PLE Program addresses legal rights and issues faced by migrant workers in British Columbia in the areas of immigration law, employment law, and labour trafficking. The PLE Program activities engage migrant workers, service providers and advocates through outreach activities, workshops, webinars, and a day-long conference.

Skills and Qualities Required: 

• Post-secondary education in law, non-profit management, or other relevant qualification
• At least two years of relevant experience as a project manager in the non-profit sector
• Proven track record in working successfully with community organizations and networks
• Highly organized, and excellent time management skills
• Ability to take initiative, and to work in a team environment
• Cultural competency and experience working with marginalized communities
• Fluency in Spanish an asset
• Valid drivers’ license an asset

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Project Manager will play a lead role in developing and carrying out all aspects of the PLE Program activities.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Coordinate all aspects of the day-to-day work of the project activities
• Develop and play a principal role in coordinating project materials and presentations
• Communicate with partner organizations throughout BC, set up workshops and webinars in 5 target communities in BC
• Oversee the development of and implement a communications and outreach strategy for the project activities
• Coordinate and liaise with MWC’s Staff Lawyer and Legal Advocates
• Create system for monitoring and evaluating the project
• Monitor project expenses
• Travel within BC on occasion
• Update MWC’s website and social media
• Write articles for MWC’s Migrants’ Voice newsletter
• Prepare reports as required by project funders
• Assist in the development of proposals for potential funding sources
• Perform other tasks as required

Additional Information: 

• This is a fixed term contract position from late August 2018 to March 31, 2019 (with possibility of renewal)
• The position is for 40 hours per week
• The project manager will work in MWC’s downtown Vancouver office from Tuesday-Saturday
• Salary is $22 per hour
