Real Change

They aim to build bridges among the poor, homeless and the greater community, while engaging the broader public in fighting for economic justice. Pro Bono Website Launched

“It will make it easier for community groups to request pro bono assistance. It will help lawyers find the type of pro bono work that interests them, and help them practise better, faster and easier, to produce high quality work for their pro bono clients,” said Charlotte Ensminger, acting executive director of Pro Bono Law of BC. What is pro bono work? Pro bono work means legal work for a person who has a legal problem, who cannot afford legal services, and who is ineligible for legal aid. It also includes legal work performed for free for non profit organizations, and public interest advocacy. Pro bono work includes: representing a client who has no other access to a lawyer or the court, or whose case raises issues of public interest, doing non-litigation work as a solicitor, being involved in community legal education, legal research, or law reform, being involved in a clinic that provides free legal information and summary advice, giving free legal advice and/or representation to individuals or community organizations.

Justice for Youth

Justice for Youth is a site supported by the Calgary John Howard Society and created and maintained by a group of youth from Calgary. These youth vary, some are young people who live at home with their parents and have never been in trouble with the law. Some are youth in care or youth in/from custody. What bonds them together is that they all want to make a difference. They all are working, side by side to help ensure that youth can get the facts around the justice system; in hopes that there online peers will make positive choices.

New Brunswick Common Front for Social Justice Coalitions

The New-Brunswick Common Front for Social Justice Coalitions could "write the book" on community organizing. A coalition of over fifty social action, labour, and social justice organization, the Common Front has a provincial campaign on impoverishment. This campaign is intended to:

  • recognize the growing problem of impoverishment in N.B. and in Canada
  • identify its effects on citizens
  • develop solutions in order to act

Le Front commun pour la justice sociale de Nouveau-Brunswick a maîtrisé l'art de l'organisation communautaire. Une coalition composé de plus que cinquante groups de travailliste, de l'action sociale, et de la justice sociale, le Front commun organise une campagne à propos de la pauvreté. Cette campagne a l'intention de:

  • reconnaître que la promblème de la pauvreté devient de plus en plus grande en Nouveau-Brunswick et au Canada
  • identifier les effets de la pauvreté sur les citroyens
  • développer les solutions pour qu'on puisse réagir

Internet Connects a Homeless Nation
