They aim to build bridges among the poor, homeless and the greater community, while engaging the broader public in fighting for economic justice. Picture the Homeless is a homeless-led organization in New York that fights for the civil and human rights of homeless people. Picture the Homeless is founded on the principle that in order to address the root causes of homelessness, people who are homeless must develop a collective, effective voice for systemic change. Their website has information on their legal clinic, various publications and reports, they also host a Picture the Homeless Blog, as well as a Picture the Homeless YouTube site with videos of their rallies and events.

Institute for Research on Poverty is a center for interdisciplinary research into the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality in the United States. It is based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As one of three Area Poverty Research Centers sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, it has a particular interest in poverty and family welfare in the Midwest.

New York Coalition for the Homeless has some resources and research reports on homelessness, including A History of Modern Homelessness in New York (in PDF) on and a searchable Resource Guide for food, shelter and services for homeless and low-income New Yorkers.

Women of Color Web is a site providing access to writings by and about women of color in the U.S., focusing specifically on issues related to feminisms, sexualities, and reproductive health and rights.

WWW Virtual Library on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs is a searchable database in human rights and humanitarian issues and laws. This is an international humanitarian law and national implementation database as well as a search engine for multiple humanitarian sites. In addition, there are numerous links and references.

The U.S. Department of State Country Reports on Human Rights Practices website has country reports on human rights practices as submitted annually by the U.S. Department of State. The reports cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political and workers' rights, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law is a US based organization acting as a legal resource for the international human rights community.
