Woodlands Campaign For Justice and CompensationSeptember 6, 2007 - 10:01am
The BC Coalition of People with Disabilities (BCCPD) is working with Woodlands School survivors for their struggle for justice and compensation. Woodlands School was a provincial residential institution for thousands of children deemed to have mental disorders. It was closed in 1996 after students alleged that they were subject to abuse at the school. BCCPD has a Woodlands Campaign webpage with information on the campaign and how to get involved. The guide has information for single mothers in Nova Scotia on accessing social assistance, legal aid, child support, and other social services. Justice for Youth is a site supported by the Calgary John Howard Society and created and maintained by a group of youth from Calgary. These youth vary, some are young people who live at home with their parents and have never been in trouble with the law. Some are youth in care or youth in/from custody. What bonds them together is that they all want to make a difference. They all are working, side by side to help ensure that youth can get the facts around the justice system; in hopes that there online peers will make positive choices.
