Anti-Poverty Online Community

PovNet was created when we were still using floppy disks, back in 1997. It remains relevant over 20 years later, as legal advocates, community workers, and pro bono lawyers do anti-poverty work in urban, rural, and remote locations across British Columbia. PovNet was created to connect people, and email lists that people could subscribe to for sharing and seeking information was very innovative. It has become a community, with hundreds of people working in anti-poverty still participating today. The community categories cover a number of issues relevant to anti-poverty advocacy work like disability, income assistance, Canada Pension Plan, housing, family law, and Indigenous issues like Gladue Rights.

To be eligible to join the PovNet online community you need to:

  • live and work in British Columbia;

  • work or formally volunteer for a non-profit, non-government organization that offers information, advocacy, or pro-bono legal services to those requiring help or support with poverty law or family law issues;

  • be employed in a role that addresses systemic issues related to poverty law, family law and access to justice.

You are not eligible if you are a government employee, hold political office, contract counsel for government, or a private landlord.
